I first met Kellie and Heath, 3 years ago. I had a young horse “Grace” that needed to be started and had no idea where to go, though many places were suggested, none of them fitted with Grace. I attended a Saltriver Horsemanship Clinic and was immediately impressed by the focus, feel and timing that Kellie displayed with her horse and with the empathy and understanding she displayed with the participants. Grace went later that year to be started, she has the best possible start any young horse could be given, a solid foundation that will stand her the rest of the days.

No matter how stuck “I” become we have the tools and experience to fall back on, correct and continue on. The journey that Grace and I have started with Saltriver Horsemanship is an insight into myself and how my horse reflects where I am at all times. I look forward to continuing this great learning experience, with Saltriver Horsemanship.

I didn’t have any doubts of attending a Saltriver Horsemanship class, I knew my horse and my riding would benefit. It was good timing for me as I have a new horse and a real desire to change the way I handle horses and ride.

I gained a better understanding of the horse and better balance in using seat and legs rather than depending on hand and rein. I would recommend anyone with a problem or horse or who needed confidence building to go to a clinic, workshop or join Cadence Club or those who want a better partnership with their horse.

I wasn’t unsure or sceptical about attending a Saltriver workshop – I couldn’t wait for it to begin.

What I like about Saltriver is their good sized arena, relaxed style of teaching, and Riding with likeminded people particularly the expert help to identify individual problems and provide strategies to cope with the problems. I like the style of riding taught – not jamming them up I like the versatility offered – bush riding plus arena work.

I’m beginning to understand that Rome wasn’t built in a day – build one brick at a time. I’m learning to be happy with small improvements and that it takes time and patience and persistence to get the horse you want.

I am also learning that horses are individuals with different learning styles and abilities. Most of all I’m learning (or trying) not to blame the horse. If there is a problem I should be looking at myself first. Horses don’t come with an established set of buttons – press 1 for canter, 2 for stop etc.

I would recommend Saltriver Horsemanship to anyone who is interested in working with their horse. I would love to see some of the dressage riders who constantly ride with ‘contact’ attend to give their horses some relief.

I wish I had been taught this way when I first learnt to ride.
